The most accessible entry point to hang gliding simulation. Single surface wings have one membrane, making them lighter and more forgiving. An ideal starting point for new pilots.
One purchase, the entire Single Surface category. Includes the modular core + every variant filed below — and accepts add-ons as they ship.
Modern single‑surface hang gliders are lightweight, highly refined wings designed for simplicity, portability, and playful handling. By exposing the entire underside of the sail, they eliminate the weight and complexity of a double‑surface profile, resulting in exceptionally low stall speeds and effortless launch and landing characteristics. Contemporary materials, improved sail shaping, and optimized frame geometry give these gliders far better glide and penetration than earlier single‑surface designs, while still keeping them approachable for newer pilots. They excel in tight thermals, low‑wind soaring, and foot‑launch sites where ease of control matters most. Modern single‑surface wings deliver a fun, responsive, and confidence‑building flying experience, making them ideal for recreational soaring, hike‑and‑fly, and relaxed XC exploration. Classic Single‑Surface Hang Gliders Classic single‑surface gliders represent the earliest era of flex‑wing hang gliding, when simplicity and freedom of flight were the defining priorities. With a fully open underside and minimal structural complexity, these wings were light, forgiving, and easy to ground‑handle. Their straightforward aluminum frames and Dacron sails offered gentle pitch stability and predictable low‑speed behavior, making them the go‑to choice for training and early recreational flying. While their glide performance and penetration were limited compared to later designs, classic single‑surface gliders remain iconic for their pure, uncomplicated feel. They embody the roots of the sport: slow, floaty, and deeply intuitive, inviting pilots to enjoy the sky without technical demands.
