Who's out there, and how do you find them?
THGF community flying runs on a spectrum — from completely unplanned encounters to scored multi-day competitions. There's no single right way. Here's how it works.

LIVE MAP
Just show up.
Check the live map for airborne pilots. Go to a nearby site and start flying — you'll be in the same sky. No coordination. No shared time or weather guarantee. They may be hours ahead of you, or years ahead — doesn't matter, there they are. Discord if you get lucky.

AD HOC SLOTS
Find their time and place.
Pilots post their regular flying slot — "Fridays at Lookout Mountain, 10 AM local." Show up at that site, near that time. Because these slots always use real weather at the site's local sim time, you're guaranteed to share the same conditions and moment. Loose rules. Discord optional.

GROUP FLIGHTS
Organised. Task-oriented.
Recurring events managed by an organiser. Pilots join and confirm. The site and task change each iteration — the organiser updates them before each run so everyone has the right task file. Time and weather are always real. Discord is commonly used. Groups outlive their founders.

Scored. Multi-day.
Declared tasks, IGC scoring, and standings across multiple days. Open to all pilots. You can even mirror a real-world event — match its tasks, site, and atmospheric window. Paid Patreon members organise them. Anyone can enter.

Pilots who post a standing slot fly real weather at their site's local sim time — every week, same place. No RSVP needed. Show up at that site around that time and you'll be flying the same sky, the same conditions, at the same moment. Discord voice optional but noted on the card.

Organised recurring sessions — same real weather window, confirmed site and task each iteration. Pilots join and RSVP. The organiser updates the site and task before each run so you always have the right file loaded. Groups survive their founders — the description and history live on regardless of who's managing.

Flying the same ridge in the same conditions as another pilot — even across time zones — is a fundamentally different experience from flying alone. The bulletin only comes alive when someone posts.

Any of the 373 THGF flying sites works. Set a rendezvous time and a real-weather sim window — a historical moment in the last 24 hours that has good conditions at your site.

Your flight appears here and on the group flights board. Anyone can observe on the live map. Patreon members can join and fly alongside you.

Multi-day events with declared tasks, IGC scoring, and real weather — open to any pilot. You can even mirror a real-world competition: match its declared tasks, fly the same site, and set your sim weather to the same atmospheric window the real event flew in. The 24-hour historical weather limit keeps conditions honest. Paid Patreon members create them. Anyone can enter.
