Mt Murchison is another high mountain site that offers spectacular views and challenging flying conditions. The launch site is located at the summit of Mt Murchison, at an elevation of about 1400 m. The site faces south-west and has a rocky slope for take-off.
The site can accommodate up to 5 gliders at a time and requires good skills and experience to fly safely.
The landing area is located at the foot of Mt Murchison, near the Murchison River Bridge. It is a small grassy field with some obstacles and power lines nearby. The landing area is about 8 km from the launch site and has an elevation difference of about 1200 m.
Has 1 different launch points. The best wind direction is 301.6 @ 10 knts but many sites can be flown from multiple directions, so check before you fly.
