About
Meridian Peak is a mountain summit in the Gore Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The 12,432-foot (3,789 m) peak is located in the Eagles Nest Wilderness, north of the town of Vail, Colorado. It can be reached by ascending several hiking trails into the Gore Range There are two launch sites and one landing area for hang gliding on Meridian Peak. The launch sites are located on the south and north ends of the Elliot Ridge Trail, which runs along the summit ridge of Meridian Peak. The landing area is located near Blue Lake, at the base of the ridge. The coordinates of the launch sites and landing area are: The elevation of the launch sites is about 12,400 feet (3,780 m) and the elevation of the landing area is about 10,200 feet (3,110 m). The distance between the launch sites and the landing area is about 2 miles (3.2 km). The glide ratio is about 10:1.
